Team India handed an embarrassing defeat to Australia in Nagpur in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Men in Blue defeated the Aussies by an inning and 132 runs. However, before the match, the pitch of Nagpur was in the headlines, especially by the Australian media.
But, after the match, all those allegations regarding the Nagpur pitch faded away. The former South Africa pacer, Dale Steyn came up with a tweet to troll Australia by asking a question of his fans. Fans also found the tweet very cheeky and that tweet went viral instantly all over the internet.
Australia had no answers to the spinning web from the Indian spinners in Nagpur
Speaking of the tweet, Dale Steyn wrote: “So quick question to you cricket people. How does one like to read a pitch? Are you a get down on your knees and almost sniff the pitch person or a general stand and observe from the pitch side? Lastly. Did it really help you?” It was quite a dig at team Australia while referencing some images of them monitoring the pitch closely before the match.
Ahead of the Nagpur Test, some images went viral where players like Steve Smith and David Warner were seen monitoring the pitch closely. Still, they failed to perform in the match as Australia scored 177 and 91 runs respectively in their first and second innings respectively. Combining both innings, Warner scored 11 runs while Smith managed 62 runs. While all the batters from Australia faced difficulties in facing Indian spinners, the home team managed to score 400 runs in their first innings.
So, despite putting allegations of doctoring the pitch before the pitch, the Australian media also slammed their team and their approach for the humiliating loss in Nagpur. However, Australia will look to perform well in the second game of the series, starting on 17 February in Delhi.
