A star Pakistani batter suffered a twisted knee in the previous encounter against the Netherlands on October 30, Sunday. It remains to see if the cricketer would feature in the remaining matches of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 as Pakistan medical team confirmed that the batter would not feature in the upcoming clash on Thursday against South Africa.
Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chief medical officer, Dr. Najeeb Soomro said that Fakhar Zaman was brave enough to make a comeback into the national squad for the ongoing 20-20 World Cup despite suffering an injury during the Asia Cup in September.
“We know that Fakhar had a knee injury in Asia Cup about 7 weeks ago, he has been incredibly brave, resilient and has worked really hard to come back into the team, he had extensive rehabilitation and after which he made his way back into the team,” Dr. Najeeb was quoted as saying by GeoNews.

We knew the risks for his return: Dr. Najeeb
Further, the chief medical officer admitted that the team management knew the risks that would come along with adding Fakhar to the squad. However, Dr. Najeeb lauded the valiance of the southpaw and said that the risk did not pay off this time around.
“We knew the risks for his return. Obviously, he is an important player for the team, the medical staff, the player, and team management was aware of that and we decided to bring him back, in any sport you take risks, sometimes the risks pay off, and sometimes they don’t. He was extremely brave and we worked hard to bring him back in, it is unfortunate that sometimes you have a bit of a reaction to something,” said the chief medical officer further.
The Men in Green will leave no stone unturned to clinch a win against the mighty Proteas on Sunday and it will be one encounter to watch out for. If at all the team led by Babar Azam fail to bag the 2 points, they, much to the dreariness of their fans, would crash out of the tournament.
