The Indian Cricket Team has got another major blow ahead of the fifth Test against England starting on July 1. Skipper Rohit Sharma tested positive on June 25. Sharma didn't come out to bat in the ongoing four-day game against Leicestershire. He scored 25 in the first innings of the game. According to the protocols in the UK, a patient needs to isolate themselves for five days at least.
This means that the right-hander's participation is doubtful for the game as it will start on July 1. At this stage, only five days are left before the start of the game in Birmingham. Currently, the India skipper is in isolation at the team hotel. The team is playing in Leicester. Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board issued a statement that confirmed that the 35-year-old is tested positive for the deadly disease.
The statement also states that the Mumbai player will be tested once again on Sunday (June 26).
"Team India captain Mr Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday. He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team. An RT-PCR test will be conducted on Sunday to ascertain his CT value," a statement from the Indian Cricket Board said.
Meanwhile, talking about the practice game, former skipper Virat Kohli scored 67 off 98 balls and looked in good touch. His innings was ended by Jasprit Bumrah, who is playing for the hosts. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who got out cheaply in the first innings, scored unbeaten 56. The scorecard read 364/9 at the end of Day Three. On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara, who made a comeback in the team for this game, scored 22 off 53.
While batting, he looked assured and didn't flustered which might be a relief for the Indian fans. Shreyas Iyer chipped in with 32 runs before he got out off Kamlesh Nagarkoti. Navdeep Saini took three wickets in the innings.
