In what comes as big news, MS Dhoni has stepped down as Chennai's captain. The keeper-batter has handed over the leadership responsibilities to Ravindra Jadeja. The franchise confirmed the same through an official statement. On their official website, they stated that Ravindra Jadeja will be Chennai's new captain.

"MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the Chennai-based franchise since 2012, will only be the third player to lead the team. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai this season and beyond," read the official statement of the Chennai-based franchise.

This comes as an absolute shocker as it was earlier stated that Dhoni will be leading the franchise once again. However, it seems as if the legend wants to pass on the torch to the new generation. Yet, it has been clearly mentioned that Dhoni will continue to play as a player.

This managed to take all the fans by surprise. This news instantly started doing rounds on social media. It is safe to assume that the 2022 edition could be Dhoni's last season, where he ensures that Chennai is in the safe hands of their new skipper, Jadeja. As far as the all-rounder is concerned, he has been an integral part of the yellow army for a really long time. As a matter of fact, he was their first retention ahead of the mega auction.

On the other hand, Dhoni would certainly go down in the record books as one of the greatest captains in the history of the league. Under his leadership, Chennai won the title on four occasions. Besides, he led them to the top four in every season barring the one in 2020. Thus, it will be interesting to see how the new skipper Jadeja, as well as Chennai, fare in their new era.
