The Rajasthan franchise has roped in Lasith Malinga as the fast bowling coach for the Indian T20 League 2022. The Rajasthan franchise won the inaugural Indian T20 League. Their achievement in the first edition was quite remarkable given the fact that the team did not have any so-called superstar in the team. The Rajasthan team in the first season was led by legend Shane Warne. Warne defined roles for the youngsters and got the best out of them to win the trophy.
Since then, Rajasthan has been known to build up squads with utility players for specific roles and get on board some of the legends to guide the team. However, the results have not quite gone their way.
Meanwhile, Lasith Malinga has featured in 122 Indian T20 League matches. He is still the highest wicket-taker in the league. Malinga has 170 wickets to his name in the tournament. The cricketing world is no stranger to the unique skill set of the Sri Lankan superstar. With his repertoire of yorkers and slowers, Malinga has been the best in the trade, when it comes to death bowling in T20 Cricket. Notable, Malinga played his entire Indian T20 League career for Mumbai.
But in the recent turn of events, Malinga will now join Rajasthan as fast bowling coach. The same was announced by the franchise’s official Twitter page. A graphic picture of Malinga was shared on the official page with the caption – “*kisses the ball* Lasith Malinga. IPL. Pink”
Death bowling has been a problem for the Rajasthan team. The introduction of Lasith Malinga may reduce the final overs bowling woes of the franchise. With Kumar Sangakkara and Lasith Malinga in the think tank of the franchise, Rajasthan will be looking to win their second title after 14 years. Rajasthan has a good bowling lineup, with the likes of Trent Boult, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Nathan Coulter-Nile in the team.
