Breaking! Bangalore makes bold decision, hands over leadership reins to this veteran

In what comes as major news, Faf du Plessis is all set to lead Bangalore. Virat Kohli was leading the franchise all along and led them for several seasons. However, after the 2021 edition, he stepped down as Bangalore captain.

Thus, when the franchise managed to buy du Plessis for INR 7 crore during the mega auction, he was expected to be their new leader. Besides, the Proteas cricketer will be available for the entire season which boosted his case.

Moreover, his form in the toughest 20 has been sensational in the recent past. He scored the second-most number of runs in the 2021 edition. As a matter of fact, his knock in the final ensured that Chennai go on to win their fourth title.

Other than Faf, the captaincy options for the franchise were Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik. While the Australian won't be available for the first few games, Dinesh Karthik was mediocre as a captain for Kolkata. Thus, the South African was the ideal captaincy option.

As a captain, Faf has led South Africa in 40 T20Is. He has won 24 and lost 15 and thus, has a win percentage of 61%. Under his leadership, the Proteas reached the semi-final during the 20-20 World Cup 2014. Moreover, as a captain, there have been numerous occasions where he has led from the front and played the rescue act.

Bangalore fans would be hoping that Faf comes good as a captain for them. They would expect him to lead their team to their maiden title. Besides, with him as a captain, it would give Kohli the luxury to play more freely.
