In what happens to be a historic tour, Australia are set to play in Pakistan for the first time since 1998. Thus, there has been a lot of hype pertaining to this all-format tour. As a matter of fact, the Aussie players have already landed in the country.
Thus, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have promised complete and thorough security to the players. However, a recent incident has instilled fear in the Australian camp. It involves Ashton Agar and his wife.
The bowling all-rounder has reportedly received a death threat in Pakistan. According to a report by Fox Sports, Agar’s partner, Madeleine, was sent a message on Instagram containing a death threat for the spinner. The message was sent by a person under the username “joyt.isharma391”. However, it was later found out that the threat wasn't credible.
“Cricket Australia is aware of a social media post, of which the nature and content has been investigated by the PCB, CA and combined Government security processes. There are extensive security plans in place for this type of social media activity, which, in this case, is not considered a risk. No further comment will be made at this time," read a Cricket Australia statement.
Another important point to be noted is the fact that New Zealand had called off its tour to Pakistan midway after receiving a similar kind of threatening message back in 2021. However, Pat Cummins was happy with the security. He drew light on the arrangements while speaking to the reporters, after landing in Pakistan.
“We’re really lucky to be surrounded by so many professionals. That was one of the big factors that we wanted to be thorough on before arriving here: not only security but biosecurity. Everyone’s done a fantastic job. We feel like we’re here and we can just focus on the cricket," said Pat Cummins.
