As cricket is considered a religion in several parts of the world, cricketers are icons. There are several cricket athletes who come under the category of "influencers". Their popularity has resulted in them being heroes for their fans.
Thus, cricketers need to be very careful before doing anything on the field. However, owing to the cameras, which manage to catch the smallest of smallest actions, a sports personality's negative side cannot stay hidden. Unfortunately for Mohammad Shahzad, he was recently spotted smoking on the field.
This occurred during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The Afghanistan cricketer was spotted smoking on the ground while waiting for the game between Minister Dhaka and Comilla Victorians to begin, which was delayed due to rain.
The pictures of Shahzad smoking them went viral. It didn't sit well with several social media users. As a result, this led to the opener being severely criticized. He was thus, charged with a demerit point as well.
Mohammad Shehzad reprimanded by BCb for smoking on the field of play tonight. He also got 1 demerit point.

"It contradicts the code of conduct. Smoking on the ground is strictly prohibited. It’s unacceptable. If he is not aware of this, the match officials should warn him,” said BCB's chief match referee Rokibul Hasan, as quoted by Business Standard.
The Afghan was found guilty of breaching Article 2.20 of the BCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. He then accepted the charges and hence, a formal hearing was not required. In the meanwhile, he has scored two fifties in the tournament so far. Dhaka are currently placed third on the table, with seven points from seven games after Friday's washout.
