In what can be called a major development, the Indian T20 League 2022 Final is reportedly set to start at 8 PM IST. It is to be noted that all the evening games this season start at 7:30 IST. However, according to a report by Cricbuzz, the grand finale of this edition shall start 30 minutes later.
This is due to a closing ceremony, which is planned by the BCCI. The report further states that this ceremony shall see Bollywood celebrities participating in it as well. While this event is expected to start at 6:30 PM IST, it will run for 50 minutes.
Hence, the toss will be held at 7:30 PM IST, and the game shall start at 8 PM IST. An important point to be noted is the fact that the grand finale of the 2022 edition shall be taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 29 (Sunday). In what turns out to be a coincidence, the BCCI had reportedly expressed their desire of conducting Indian T20 League games at 8 PM IST, and not 7:30 PM IST.
Earlier, the games used to start at 8 PM IST for the first ten years of the league. Besides, every edition from 2008 to 2017 had an opening and closing ceremony as well. However, it was stopped under the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) regime for three years. Moreover, even the 2022 edition didn't have an opening ceremony.
As far as the ongoing 15th edition of the Indian T20 league is concerned, the tournament is currently approaching its business end. 66 games of this season have already taken place. The playoffs are scheduled to start on May 24. The Qualifier 1 and Eliminator shall take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 24 and 25 respectively.
After which, the Qualifier 2 and final shall take place in Ahmedabad. Currently, Gujarat and Lucknow are the two teams to have officially qualified for the playoffs. In the meanwhile, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata are officially out of the race to the playoffs. Thus, it will be exciting to see which two teams end up joining Gujarat and Lucknow in the top four.
