The much-waited Border-Gavaskar Trophy began on 9 February 2023 in Nagpur. Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. However, Rohit Sharma confirmed that Ravindra Jadeja is going to make his comeback after a long gap of five years. Jadeja has been out of action due to the knee injury that he sustained in the Asia Cup 2022. However, ahead of the series opener, Ravindra Jadeja shared his excitement on his comeback to international cricket.
He said: “I was eagerly waiting to make a comeback and play for India. I had been struggling with my knee for some time, so surgery was needed. I am very excited and feel good that after more than 5 months I am in the Indian jersey. I am lucky to have got the chance back. There were many ups and downs in the journey because it is not easy if you stay from cricket for 5 months.”
Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets in the first innings for team India
Before making the comeback for the Men in Blue, he played for Saurashtra against Tamil Nadu in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Jadeja had a great game as he took eight wickets and scored 40 runs with the bat. Before that clash, Ravindra Jadeja revealed the setback he experienced in the last five months.
Jadeja said: “You feel bad. Nobody wants to get injured at your peak time. It is part of the game. You have to keep that in mind and be prepared for it. You can't do anything. There is no guarantee that one won't get injured in cricket. It was a ligament tear. It is coming good. I am slowly getting confident. As I said, a match is a different thing. Different ball game...I will try to give my 100 percent. I will try to go slowly, slowly. Let's see how my leg is feeling and then we will see.”
Speaking of the match, Australia got bundled out for just 177 runs in 63.5 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the star of the show as he picked up five wickets for 47 runs in 22 overs. It was his 11th fifer in his Test career and fans went crazy after such a remarkable comeback from the star all-rounder.
Here is how fans have lauded Ravindra Jadeja for his outstanding performance on his comeback:
