Team India skipper Rohit Sharma batted in the middle order in the first of the three ODIs vs West Indies. Following this, he was dropped from the side to allow younger batters to get their rare chance. Moreover, he was not included in the T20 squad for the tour of West Indies. Rohit looked in fine form in the two-match Test with scores of 103, 80, and 57 in the three times that he batted.
As such, the skipper did not return to India right after his commitments with the team were done after the ODI series. He went to the United States of America (USA) for the launch of the California branch of his cricket academy called ‘Crickingdom’. However, it seems the 36-year-old is back in India and is focusing on his next assignment with the team which would be the Asia Cup ODI 2023.
‘In the Asia Cup, I want to see some of the guys batting under pressure’ – Rohit Sharma
The marquee continental tournament will be held in a hybrid model with Pakistan and Sri Lanka co-hosting the competition. Notably, all of India’s matches will be held in Sri Lanka. There is a chance for arch-rivals India and Pakistan to face each other three times in the tournament. Once in the group stage, once in the Playoffs, and the final if the two Asian cricketing stalwarts qualify for the summit clash scheduled to be played at Colombo.
Rohit Sharma recently opened up on his expectations from the upcoming Asia Cup and talked at length about issues like squad selection, experimenting with the batting line-up, and preparation for the ODI World Cup 2023. "We will see, we want to win but at the same time, there are a lot of questions that we need answers to. But in the Asia Cup, I want to see some of the guys batting under pressure against quality teams," he said.
"I still want to see those things, so we will wait and see what happens, but it is always nice to have a lot of names, rather than just one or two names. I hope they are fit in time – firstly that is the most important. We have got a lot of names there. We will see what is the right combination for us to go in the World Cup but before
