The ongoing Ashes series has been spiced up by both on-field and off-field events. It all started with Alex Carey's controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow, which sparked a debate over the 'spirit of the game'. Amidst all this, fake reports involving the Australian wicketkeeper surfaced, claiming that he refused to pay a barber in Leeds after getting a haircut.

England legend Alastair Cook, while commentating on the third Ashes Test, revealed a bizarre story about Carey not paying for his haircut. The incident was later reported by an English news outlet, The Sun, which confirmed the story through the alleged barber, Adam Mahmood.

" said, he hasn't paid. It was one of those cash-only ones, and he promised he would have a transfer later in the day, and this was just before he shut. This is a true story, I'm not making it up," Cook said while on commentary.

As Carey was heavily targeted by the English people, it forced Australia to come forward and defend their player. Australian vice-captain Steve Smith and Cricket Australia said the allegations were false and said he had not even had a haircut since the World Test Championship 2021-23 final. The former England captain Cook later apologised and confirmed that it was a mistaken identity.

Bairstow's dismissal was crucial to Australia's victory in the second Test at Lord's, allowing them to take a 2-0 lead. However, England bounced back at Headingley to reduce their deficit.

A win at Old Trafford in the fourth Test will help Australia clinch the series and retain the Ashes. England, meanwhile, will be keen to keep the winning momentum going and force Australia into a series decider.
