Umar Akmal completely lost his track and now, he is very far from getting selected for the Men in Green. As of now, he has played 16 Tests where he has scored 1003 runs in 30 innings. In 121 ODIs, Akmal has scored 3194 runs while managing 1690 runs in 84 T20Is. He last played for his country on 7 November 2021 in a T20I game against Sri Lanka.

“Management is ignoring me without any reason." - Umar Akmal to Ramiz Raja

On 20 February 2020, the PCB suspended Akmal provisionally and he got charged with breaching Article 2.4.4 of PCB's Anti-Corruption Code. Thus, they prevented him from playing in the Pakistan Super League for his franchise Quetta Gladiators. As a result, he got suspended from all forms of cricket for a period of 3 years on corruption charges by the Pakistan Cricket Board Disciplinary Panel. He failed to report a spot-fixing offer made to him in the Pakistan Super League. Akmal paid a hefty fine of PKR 4.5 million to Pakistan Cricket Board to make him eligible to play for the Men in Green in 2021.

In an official statement, PCB shared: "Umar Akmal has been allowed to resume club cricket activities as part of his rehabilitation process, which commenced last month. In the processes completed to date, Umar has shown remorse, attended an anti-corruption lecture, and participated in a Q&A session conducted by the Security and Anti-Corruption Department." But, in 2022, Umran Akmal pleaded to then PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja. He said: "Ramiz bhai! I want to meet you, I want to play cricket and I want to discuss a few things with you. Management is ignoring me without any reason." Now, a video has gone viral where Akmal was seen dancing to Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan’s famous hit song, named ‘Darde Disco’.
