The Apex Cricket Council took a bold step by trying to limit the number of overseas signings by franchises to protect Test Cricket. The first big hint at franchise Cricket eating up the Test structure was the contract situation of Jason Roy who gave up on his contract with the Cricket Board of England and Wales to sign a multi-million-dollar deal with Major League Cricket’s franchise – LA Knight Riders.

As reported by the British news agency, The Telegraph, the Apex Council is set to comply with IPL’s rule of playing just four overseas players in the Playing XI. In addition, the franchises will have to pay a fixed fee to the national boards for every player signed, ensuring a regular flow of revenue for Cricket boards. Reportedly this fixed fee could be a standard 10% of the player’s fee.

Apparently, these rules are in accordance to make sure Test Cricket is protected. However, a lot of fans had varying opinions of Twitter. While some pointed out the problems of T20 specialists, some talked of how Indian players aren’t allowed to play franchise cricket anywhere other than IPL, and even then deserving players do not find opportunities in the Test structure.
