Team India are currently busy playing the home T20I series against New Zealand. In the first match, the Men in Blue lost the game by 21 runs. While India managed a thrilling win in a low-scoring match in the second T20I by six wickets. But, batting has become a concern for the home side in these last two matches.
Especially, all three top-order batters have failed miserably so far. On the eve of the series opener, Hardik Pandya confirmed that Shubman Gill will open with Ishan Kishan. India also considered Rahul Tripathi as number three as he got his debut in the last home T20I series against Sri Lanka.
India lost their three wickets at the top for just 50 runs in 10.4 overs of the second T20I against the Kiwis
In the first T20I, India had a target of 177 runs. But, they managed only 155 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. All three top-order batters failed as three wickets fell down after just 15 runs in 3.1 overs. Ishan Kishan scored four runs while Shubman Gill scored seven runs. Rahul Tripathi had a forgettable outing as he scored a six-ball duck. However, fans were hoping for a better show from the batters in the second game. But, in the second game also, they failed again despite team India were chasing only 100 runs.
All three batters had a start but failed to continue their innings. Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill scored 19 runs off 32 balls and 11 runs off nine balls respectively. Rahul Tripathi also scored only 13 runs off 18 balls. Thus, India lost all three batters for 50 runs in 10.4 overs. These players have been given a chance ahead of veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the shortest format of the game. So, fans were not happy with their performance and slammed them brutally on social media platforms.
Here is how fans have reacted to the failure of top-order batters in the second T20I against the Kiwis:
What are Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill doing in T20Is? And with Rahul Tripathi woefully out of form, this looks a train wreck of a batting order for India. Yuck. #INDVsNZ
