Veteran all-rounder Ben Stokes has also reacted to English player Charlie Dean’s controversial run-out at the non-striker’s end by Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma. It all happened in the third and final of the three-match ODI series played at Lord’s.
England Test skipper was in shock when he was dragged into the debate after a comparison of Deepti’s ‘Mankading’ to his 2019 World Cup final deflection incident.
Now, coming back to the Deepti-Charlie row, then the incident has left the cricketing fraternity divided with multiple opinions. Eventually, Deepti’s presence of mind gave India a 16-run win in the last ODI to seal the series with a clean sweep margin of 3-0.
Here's what Ben Stokes tweeted:
Stokes took to Twitter for coming up with his reaction. “Why are people comparing a ball deflecting of my bat to a Mankad,” reads the tweet of Ben Stokes. Although, his tweet went viral over social media within minutes.
After a heated debate in the cricketing fraternity, Marylebone Cricket Club has also come up with clarifying statement. MCC stated that it is up to the batters that they should stay in the crease until the ball is released from the hands of the bowler.
“This was done to clarify this matter and to place an onus on batters to ensure that they do not leave the crease at the non-striker's end, prior to a bowler releasing the ball,” said MCC in the statement.
Speaking of the game, then the Indian team posted a total of 169 after losing all wickets in the 45.4 overs. Star opener Smriti Mandhana and all-rounder Deepti Sharma played the brilliant knocks of 50 and 68 runs respectively.
While defending the target, Indian bowlers bundled up the English girls only on the score of 153 runs in 43.3 overs. Eventually, India clinched the series with a margin of 3-0 to win a series in England after a long wait of 23 years.
