Sydney Sixers have been dealt with a major blow as star wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe has tested positive for COVID-19. Sixers are set to take on Adelaide Strikers in Qualifier 2 for a place in the final. Along with Philippe, Jack Edwards and Mickey Edwards will also move into isolation after testing positive. The trio won't be available for the finals as well if Sixers qualify for the summit clash. Meanwhile, Sydney Thunder wicketkeeper Jay Lenton has been added to the squad.
Philippe's loss is a big blow to the team as he has been in tremendous form in the tournament. He played a crucial role in the Sixers' run to the knockouts and scored 429 runs in 15 games at an average of 33. With four half-centuries in the tournament, he sits seventh on the list of most runs in the tournament.
“Missing from the squad is star opener/wicketkeeper, who earlier today returned a positive Covid-19 diagnosis, with that news following the positive Covid-19 diagnosis received by Jack and Mickey Edwards last week. All three players are in isolation as they recover.” an official statement read.
Daniel Hughes has been also added to the Sixers squad for the game. Hughes, who twisted his ankle head of the game against Perth Scorchers, will have to undergo a fitness test ahead of the match.
