Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is the latest player to have tested positive for COVID-19. The development was confirmed by Melbourne Stars management. Maxwell underwent a rapid antigen test after his team’s loss against Melbourne Renegades and returned positive for the virus.

Currently, the Stars skipper is under isolation and awaiting the result of the PCR test that he has undergone. Maxwell is the latest player from Stars to be infected with COVID-19. 12 players and eight support staff members have tested positive. The Stars are in total disarray and they had to field to have a depleted side for their last two games owing to the absence of a few first choice players.

The only positive news for Stars is that 10 players, including Adam Zampa, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Marcus Stoinis will be done with their seven-day isolation period. They will be available for Stars' next fixture against Adelaide Strikers on Friday (January 7).

COVID-19 has against cast its spell around cricketing matches all over the world. The Stars were the latest to have suffered from the COVID-19 outbreak. Even by maintaining all safety norms and protocols, the players returned positive. Stars all-rounder Hilton Cartwright, who did not contact to the COVID-19 has admitted that it was an immense mental challenge.

"I've never felt more vulnerable to a virus in my entire life and I never realised how much it was going to affect my mental state," Cartwright said, according to Cricket.com.au

"I've had form slumps, and this ranks right up there with how I actually feel about going about my business day-to-day.

"Myself and my wife have basically been locked up in our room, not sure if we're capable of catching the lift in case someone in there might have caught (COVID-19).

"Constantly, it's on your mind, and then you've got to walk out there and perform one of the biggest pressure stages in the world."
