The 2023 ODI World Cup is just hours away and fans across the globe are eagerly waiting to witness cricket's biggest carnival. The 13th edition of the quadrennial event will kick off on October 5 when previous edition finalists England and New Zealand clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. A total of 48 matches, including the final on November 19, will be played across 10 different cities in India.

There will be no opening ceremony this time as reports suggest that the Indian Cricket Board has scrapped the plan to hold it on October 4, a day before the tournament opener. The decision may have been taken in the context of the host nation not playing the opening match. However, reports say the board is planning to hold a short event ahead of the blockbuster India-Pakistan match that is scheduled for October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Meanwhile, ahead of the start of the premier 50-over tournament, a captainsโ€™ meeting was organised in Ahmedabad, and all ten skippers were present at that event. The Cricket Governing Body and Indian Cricket Board jointly organised the program on Wednesday, which had a photoshoot of all captains with the trophy, followed by a media conference, anchored by former India head coach Ravi Shastri and former England captain Eoin Morgan.

South Africa will open their 2023 ODI World Cup campaign on October 7 against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Proteas have been part of the showpiece event in eight editions but have never been able to lift the coveted trophy. With the kind of top-class batters in the squad, especially in their middle-order, South Africa will enter the tournament as one of the favourites.
