With Samarawickrama's outstanding performance, Sri Lanka now stood with 257 runs on the scoreboard after being sent out to bat by the opposition skipper. While his teammates failed to get going, he continued to bat on an entirely different level and finished with 93 off only 72 balls. He considered it to be a poor surface for batting.

Inroads were made by Bangladesh's pacers, although spinners kept things extremely close. Hasan Mahmud was quite outstanding, but it was actually Shoriful who changed the game by taking the wickets of Mendis and Nissanka in consecutive overs. Samarawickrama then walked to the centre and started to bat expertly. Kusal Mendis and Nissanka were the only ones apart from Samarawickrama who looked solid at the crease.

Bangladesh falter in their run chase against Sri Lanka during Asia Cup Super Four

Due to Shanaka's shrewd usage of the short balls, Bangladesh was in trouble at 83/4 when Hridoy entered the field but he was slow to begin. With Wellalage bowling effectively and without committing any errors, it wasn't simple to deal with for the Bangladesh batters. But after getting over that stage, he began to exert pressure, keeping Bangladesh in the game into the final five overs.

However, Theekshana, who had an inconsistent opening stint, came back forcefully to win the match. In just a few overs, he claimed three wickets, effectively ending the game. In the end, they scraped through to a 21-run win and got their first points on the board for their Super Four campaign.

Maheesh Theekshana spoke to the media after the game and discussed his plan throughout his innings. He said - "I just went with my basics, bowled the second over, and came back for another 3-over spell, I later came back with the old ball and used my experience to take wickets. It was painful (about the injury), but it doesn't matter when you're playing for the country. Today, someone else took the wickets. The plan was to bowl wicket to wicket, get dismissals either bowled LBW, we had the team set to do it as well.”
