India and Australia are in action in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, playing in the fourth and final Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series test. The final match is of great importance to both teams. While India have a spot on the line in the final of the Test Championship to be played at the Oval in June, Australians are looking to avoid a third-straight Test series defeat against India. Notably, India won the last two Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series in Australia, setting themselves up for third-straight Test series win against the men from down under.

India is coming off a defeat in the last test in Indore as they look to win the series after having retained the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy wining back to back games in Nagpur and Delhi. Notably, the visitors were captained by Steve Smith in the third Test, the one that they managed to win. Following regular captain Pat Cummins’s mother’s demise, Smith stepped out as the captain in the final test as well. The Australian played with black armbands to pay homage to the departed soul.

India close out Day 2 at 36/0

Regarding the ongoing fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad, Australia won the toss and chose to bat first on a track that appeared batter-friendly at first glance. The Kangaroos rode on commanding hundreds by opener Usman Khawaja (180 off 422) and Cameron Green (114 off 170), reaching 480 before being bowled out on Session 2 of Day 2. Khawaja remained the MVP of the day for the Aussies despite losing his chance at a double century, getting out at the score of 180.

Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin remained the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as he returned with figures of 6/91 from 47.2 overs. Mohammed Shami picked up a couple of wickets as Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel returned with one scalp each in the first innings. In reply, India got off to a good start, with skipper Rohit Sharma (17 off 33) and his opening partner Shubman Gill (18 off 27) surviving the day, closing out at 36/0.
