Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has called for a life ban on the cricketer, who hung Rajasthan and India leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, from the balcony of the 15th floor of a team hotel back in 2013.
Recently, in a video uploaded by Rajasthan on their official Twitter handle. At that time, he used to play for Mumbai. Notably, the leg-spinner hasn't revealed the name of the player. Meanwhile, Shastri, who is currently working as a commentator in the ongoing Indian T20 League, has said that the person involved was not in a conscious state of mind. He further stated that such a person should be handed a life ban if such kind of an incident happens today.
“No laughing matter at all. I do not know who the person involved is, he was not in a conscious state of mind. If that is the case, then it is a big worry. Someone’s life is at risk, some people might think it is funny but for me, it is not funny at all,” Shastri said on ESPNCricinfo’s ‘T20 Time Out’.
“It is the first time I am hearing such a drastic thing like this. It is not funny at all. If such an incident happens today, a life ban for that person involved and send that person to a rehab centre as quickly as possible. Life ban, better not come near to a cricket field then he will realise how funny is it or not funny,” Shastri added.
The former India head coach concluded by saying that the job of a player is to let the authorities know.
“Just like you are told by the Anti-Corruption Unit when there is an approach made by someone or the other when it comes to fixing, it is your job to approach the authorities to let them know,” Shastri concluded.
On the work front, Yuzvendra Chahal is bowling really well. He is currently the second highest wicket-taker this season, claiming 7 wickets in 3 matches.
