On 17 July 2023, Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) locked horns with Mumbai Indians New York (MI NY) in the sixth match of the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) in Grand Prairie. Both teams lost their respective tournament openers. Hence, they were looking for a win in this clash.
Speaking of the match, MI NY skipper, Kieron Pollard won the toss and opted to bat first. While batting first, they scored 155 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Tim David played a blinder of innings as he scored 48* runs off 21 balls, including four fours and four sixes. For LAKR, Ali Khan, Corne Dry, and Adam Zampa took two wickets each while Lockie Ferguson grabbed one wicket.
LAKR are the only team with two losses in two games so far in MLC 2023
But, in reply, LAKR batters made a mess of the chase as it was a complete batting collapse for them. They got bundled out for just 50 runs in 13.5 overs and handed a humiliating defeat at the hands of MI NY. Thus, MI NY won the game by 105 runs and with this win, they are now in the second spot at the table. However, it was the second consecutive loss for LAKR in the tournament. For MI NY, all five bowlers took two wickets each. Tim David won the Player of the Match award for his contribution.
During the post-match presentation, LAKR skipper, Sunil Narine said: “(His thoughts on the game) We had a good first half of the game but that is about it. They bowled really well. Not sure what else I can say at the moment. Cricket comes thick and fast and you have to move on as quickly as possible. Another heavy defeat but it takes one good game (to turn things around). We will try our best to come back better.” Seeing such a horrible performance, fans went crazy and slammed the team brutally on social media.
Here is how fans have reacted:
