From December 1, Pakistan and England will be in action for the first time after the 20-20 World Cup 2022 early this month. Both teams played in the title clash with the Three Lions winning the game. Meanwhile, days after this, both teams are set to switch formats and play a three-match Test series. Ahead of the series, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam spoke to the media.
During the conversation, he revealed the childhood hero he used to admire. The right-hander said that it was none other than former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers. Azam explained that he used to watch the Protean on TV and tried to play the latter's shots the very next day.
“My role model is AB de Villiers. I love him. The way he has played, the way he played his shots. I saw him on the TV and the very next day, I tried his shots in the nets. I tried to copy AB de Villiers, tried to look and play like him. He is my idol,” Babar said in the interview posted on Pakistan Cricket's official YouTube channel.
AB de Villiers played in PSL and met Babar Azam
A few years back, the Pretoria player was signed by the 2022 Pakistan Super League champions, Lahore Qalandars. In 2019, he played a few games for the Green Brigade. After Babar Azam's revelation, the picture of Azam and De Villers is going viral on social media.
"My role model is AB de Villiers, I love the way he played. I used to watch him on TV and used to try his shots in the nets the very next day," Babar Azam to Nasser Hussain on Sky Sports. #PAKvENG pic.twitter.com/xK7U1dUo7g

Notably, some England players have been infected by viral fever which is why the trophy unveiling ceremony was postponed. In the last update posted by PCB, it is said that PCB and ECB are in talks and are assessing the situation.
“The PCB and ECB are in discussions regarding the commencement of the 1st #PAKvENG Test as some England players are down with viral infection,” the board said on Twitter.
“The PCB continues to monitor the situation, is in contact with the ECB and will provide further updates in due course.”
