Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has leapfrogged England’s Dawid Malan to become the No 1 T20I batter. Babar has lit up the 20-20 World Cup with an outstanding display of batsmanship. Pakistan have enjoyed a magnificent run in the showpiece event so far and Babar has played a pivotal role in taking the team to four consecutive wins. He is the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 199 runs in 4 games at an average of 66, including two half-centuries against Afghanistan and Namibia.
This is the sixth time that Babar has claimed the top spot in the rankings. Along with T20Is, Babar is also the No 1 batter in ODIs. The 27-year-old has 834 rating points, 26 ahead of second-placed Dawid Malan.
Meanwhile, another team that has done splendidly well in the tournament is England. Despite being placed in a tough group, the team is yet to lose a game and have cemented their berth in the semifinals. The star for England undoubtedly has been Jos Buttler, who is the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 214 runs to his name. He also scored a magnificent hundred against Sri Lanka. He along with Jason Roy have also gained in the rankings. Buttler has reached career-best ninth position while Roy is up five spots to 14th.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has displaced Tabraiz Shamsi to claim the top spot for the first time in the rankings for the bowlers.
