After losing Shreyas Iyer to an unfortunate injury, Delhi Capitals suffered another massive blow as their ace all-rounder, Axar Patel has tested positive for COVID-19. As per the BCCI SOP, a player who tests positive for the virus will have to isolate himself for a minimum of 10 days from the day of him testing positive. This means that Axar Patel is certain to miss Delhi Capitals’ opening fixture against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on April 10.
"During the 10-day isolation, the individual must rest and avoid any exercises. The team doctor should regularly monitor the case. If symptoms worsen during the course of isolation, the individual must be hospitalised immediately," the SOP states.
The news of Axar Patel testing positive for the Coronavirus was confirmed by a source in the DC camp. He further revealed that Axar is in isolation and is following all the necessary protocols.
"Unfortunately, Axar has tested positive. He is isolating and all protocols are being followed," the source said. Nitish
Axar is the second IPL bound player to test positive for Covid-19 after Kolkata Knight Rider’s Nitish Rana. Earlier, eight groundstaff members of the Wankhede Stadium also tested positive for the virus. Maharashtra is in panic mode after a sudden explosion of coronavirus cases. With Wankhede Stadium set to host 10 IPL games, and Maharashtra CM hinting at a possible lockdown, things are not looking very promising for the IPL. The franchises, however, are keeping their fingers crossed with the 14th edition of the IPL that is set to get underway on April 9th.
