In a major blow for the Indian team, Avesh Khan has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022. Deepak Chahar, who was named as the reserve player, will join the India squad. Avesh had been left out of the playing XI in the super four match against Pakistan due to fever. He was not included in the match against Sri Lanka either.
Chahar was bowling at full tilt on the side pitch ahead of the match against Sri Lanka under the supervision of bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. Chahar recently returned to national duty during the Zimbabwe ODI series, following a long-term injury layoff that also kept him out of the Indian T20 League earlier this year. The 30-year-old took five wickets in two matches in Harare during the series.
In the meantime, Avesh Khan had been picked up by India following his outstanding performance in the Indian T20 League. However, he did not fare well in the Asia Cup. The pacer only played two games and took one wicket against Pakistan. He was also hit hard by Hong Kong.
In the few opportunities he has had at the international level, he has proven to be costly. The 25-year-old has taken 13 wickets at an average of 32.46 in 15 T20Is. His economy rate nears ten at the end of the innings, which frequently costs Team India in the death overs.
India in the Asia Cup 2022
So far, the Indian team has performed admirably in the Asia Cup 2022. They advanced to the Super Four stage by defeating Pakistan and Hong Kong in the Group stages. The Men in Blue, on the other hand, did not have the best start to the round, losing the first match against Pakistan in a nail-biting thriller. The Green Brigade won by five wickets in the final over of the game.
At the moment, they are playing a must-win game against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium. They will need to win this match in order to qualify for the finals.
