The last few months haven't really been great for England. After losing the Ashes 2021-22 by 0-4, the ECB sacked their head coach Chris Silverwood. As of now, Paul Collingwood has taken over as their interim head coach.
However, the board will be finalizing a new head coach, who shall be taking the role on a full-time basis. Recently, Shane Warne expressed his desire to coach the Brits. It is to be noted that the Aussie has had his fair share of experience in the coaching arena.
The legendary leggie has mentored big teams such as Rajasthan and London Spirit in the Indian T20 league and The Hundred respectively. Warne felt that he can do a ‘pretty good job. While speaking on Sky Sports Cricket Podcast, he said that the English side have a lot of good players and it's just the matter of rectifying small errors.
“I’d like to do it, it’s a great time to be England coach. I think I’d do a pretty good job, there’s a lot to work with. There are so many good players in England and a lot of depth, but you’ve got to get some of the basics right. You can’t bowl no-balls and drop so many catches, but you’ve got the players, they’re just not performing," said Shane Warne.
In the meanwhile, the Victorian also drew light on Justin Langer, who recently stepped down as Australia's head coach. Warne said that the way in which the issue was handled was “disgraceful.” He felt that the players or captain not speaking about the matter was disappointing.
“Cricket Australia were disgraceful in the way they handled it. Winning an Ashes series and a World Cup, it doesn’t get much bigger than that. But Langer was a dead man walking. When I didn’t hear the captain or any other players sticking up for him, saying he was fantastic, I found that really disappointing," he said.
“Why couldn’t Cricket Australia come out and say they were not renewing his contract straight away but would wait until the end of the summer, see who the best candidate is, and if Langer is still the best candidate give him a contract? If I were England I’d be jumping at him,” he added.
