The Indian team were in a troubling situation when they lost their top-order batters Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara in a monumental run chase of 444 runs. However, later, former India captain Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane kept the team alive in the game. India ended the 4th day on the score of 164/3 and need 280 from the last day to win.
In the moments before Rohit and Pujara were dismissed up by Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins, Scott Boland broke the hearts of the Indians by dismissing Gill just as tea was about to be taken. Before Boland's strike, Gill and his opening partner Rohit had methodically amassed 41/0 after the first seven overs and were looking solid at the crease. Meanwhile, Indian speedster Mohammed Shami said in the press conference that everyone believes that India will win the match.
"100 per cent everyone believes that tomorrow we will win the match. Because we have always fought. We perform well around the world. Not here only. So, we believe and we always come together to win this match," Shami was quoted as saying by India Today.
You should not look at the long target: Mohammed Shami
Shami further added and said that if we bat well then 280 is not a big score and according to him the Indian batters should bat normally and said that the chances of success are higher. However, the task is very difficult but if somehow India managed to chase the target, then it would very historical.
"According to me, if you bat well, 280 runs - is not a big score. So, according to me, you should bat normally in a Test match. You should focus on playing ball by ball. You should not look at the long target. So, according to me, the chances of success are higher there. When you keep small goals and targets, you will get more success. So, according to me, you should play normally," Shami concluded.
