According to the latest report, the Asia Cup 2022, which was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, is likely to be moved out of the country. The recent development has come amidst the ongoing economic crises in the Island nation. Because of the current economic situation in Sri Lanka, the upcoming Asia Cup is likely to take place in some other country.
For the unversed, the Asia Cup 2022 is slated from 27th August to 11th September 2022. The dates and the host nation were finalized last month in an Annual General Meeting between the member countries. The top five Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are all going to be part of the event.
As per the latest development, the decision to change the venue of the event is to be decided at the quarterly meeting of the cricket’s governing body. The meeting is supposed to be held in Dubai on Sunday. Notably, the PCB chairman, Ramiz Raza and Chief Executive Faisal Hasnain will be making their presence at the event.
Notably, Sri Lanka is also set to host Australia and Pakistan between June and August. Whether will the series be conducted as planned remains to be seen. Sri Lanka recently toured India for three T20 internationals and two Test matches.
The Island nation couldn’t win a single game on their tour to India. India defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 in the three-match ODI series, followed by a 2-0 win in the Test series. Sri Lanka are currently ranked seventh in the ICC Test rankings. In the ODIs, they are sitting at number 8, while the Island nation are languishing at number ten in the T20 rankings.
