Pakistan is all set to face the arch-rivals India in their first match of the Asia Cup 2022. Both teams will play this match today i.e., on the 28th of August (Sunday) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Notably, it will be the first time that both teams will be facing each other after their previous clash in the T20 World Cup 2021.

Although, apart from the action of the match, there is major news coming from the center. The Pakistani team will be wearing black armbands in the match against India. They will be wearing these black armbands to express their solidarity and support for their flood-affected natives in Pakistan.

Pakistan cricketers want to express their solidarity with the flood-affected people in the country

The news of the Pakistani team wearing a black band has been tweeted by a Pakistani sports journalist.

“The Pakistan cricket team will wear black armbands in their match against India today to express their solidarity and support for the flood affectees across the country #AsiaCup #INDvPAK,” reads the tweet of the journalist.

Considering the devastation from the flood, the government of Pakistan has declared a “National Emergency”. Nearly 1,000 people have died in these floods. Apart from this, almost 30 million people have been badly affected. There are unprecedented floods due to the heavy monsoon rains in the South Asian country.

According to the statistics of the National Disaster Management Authority, at least 937 deaths have been recorded including 343 children in those.

Incumbent Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has to postpone his trip to the United Kingdom.  He went on to appeal for fundraising from friendly countries. He also asked for help to some of the international institutions after this crisis hit Pakistan.

"Visiting flood-affected areas & meeting people. The magnitude of the calamity is bigger than estimated. Times demand that we come together as one nation in support of our people facing this calamity. Let us rise above our differences & stand by our people who need us today," reads the tweet from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
