In a recent piece of news, it has been learned that the regular skipper of India, Rohit Sharma is missing the last match India in the super-4 round of the tournament. Senior batter KL Rahul is leading the team as a stand-in skipper in the absence of Rohit Sharma. India is locking horns in a dead rubber against Afghanistan.

Notably, the men in blue have been knocked out of the tournament after two consecutive losses against Pakistan and then Sri Lanka. On the other hand, Afghanistan is also on the same boat as India as they also have lost their two matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan respectively.

Coming back to Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, then he scored an amazing knock of 72 runs off 41 balls with five boundaries and four sixes in the last clash against Sri Lanka. But eventually, the Indians lost this match against Sri Lanka by a margin of six wickets.

Stand-in skipper KL Rahul also talked about Rohit’s absence in the ongoing match against Afghanistan. He mentioned the reason for the regular skipper taking a break from the match.

"Rohit just wants to take a break considering the tough conditions here, and the World Cup ahead. Playing back-to-back is not easy in these conditions. We're trying to finalize the roles that each individual will play in the World Cup," said KL Rahul at the time of the Toss

"It's good learning for us to play such a tournament before the World Cup. We have learned a few things from the losses," he added later.

Other than that, Axar Patel, senior wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik, and Deepak Chahar have been called up to the playing XI.
