Indian team faced the arch-rivals Pakistan in their first match of the campaign in the Asia Cup 2022. It was the first time when these two Asian giants were facing each other for the first time since their last encounter in the T20 World Cup 2021. In that match, the men in green defeated the Indians by a massive margin of 10 wickets.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked Pakistan to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja emerged as the heroes for team India in this must-win encounter of the tournament.
Whereas, there were also the prime players who were expected to perform well in this match but they disappointed the fans with their poor performances. So, here we’ll have a look at three players who didn’t play up to the hopes of the team in the match against Pakistan.
Rohit Sharma
Regular skipper and senior batter Rohit Sharma was not a part of the team during the last three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. He was making his comeback for the team in the first match of their campaign in the Asia Cup 2022. Fans were expecting a handsome performance from the skipper in the much-anticipated clash against the arch-rivals.
But unfortunately, the 35-year-old failed drastically and he could score only 12 runs off 18 balls with only a six to his name. He took 44 minutes to score these 12 runs. He fell prey to Mohammad Nawaz and got caught by Iftikhar Ahmad in the eighth over of the Indian innings.
Yuzvendra Chahal
The senior leg-spinner could have been a vital element for India in the match. But he couldn’t deliver up to the expectations as he conceded 32 runs in his quota of four overs. Indian fans had a lot of expectations of him. But he couldn’t impress with his outing in the match against Pakistan
The 32-year-old was also a part of a few last bilateral clashes for India against West Indies and in England as well. It will also be a factor to see if management opts to pick the legendary off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI by resting Chahal.
Suryakumar Yadav
World number two batter in the T20 internationals had been in a good run of form with the bat. He impressed everyone with his stellar performances in the white-ball clashes against England and West Indies. Fans also expected him to play a crucial knock in the high-voltage encounter against Pakistan.
But unfortunately, Suryakumar Yadav didn’t play to his stature in T20I cricket. He could score only 18 runs off 18 balls with only a boundary and a below-average strike rate of 100.00. Experts are also analyzing that change in the batting may have affected the efficiency of Suryakumar Yadav.
