India has announced the squad for Asia Cup 2022. Senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the lineup as he sustained a back injury just before the commencement of the continental tournament on the 27th of August later this month. In the absence of Bumrah, the selectors picked three pacers in the squad for this tournament.
Considering this, it will also be a question for the team management while selecting the playing XI for the first match against the arch-rivals Pakistan that who will fit the place of Bumrah. So, here we’ll have a look at three bowlers who can make it to the playing XI of the Indian team in the first match on the 28th of August against Pakistan.
Avesh Khan
Avesh Khan was in action during the recently-concluded five-match T20I series against West Indies. Apart from this, he also made his ODI debut in the second of the three-match ODI series at the same tour against the Caribbean side. Avesh had not that many fine outings on the tour but the experts understand that he has the capability to improve himself.
Keeping that in the back of their mind, skipper Rohit Sharma and team management might give him one more chance in a crucial match against Pakistan to prove. If it happens, then the 25-year-old will replace the senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the playing XI.
Arshdeep Singh
The young prodigy from Madhya Pradesh has truly impressed everyone with his outstanding performances since he made his first appearance in the T20 internationals. Arshdeep Singh became only the second bowler of India to maiden over in the very first over of his T20I career.
He has also had 9 wickets to his name in the 6 T20I matches he played so far. Apart from this, the 23-year-old youngster was also impressed with his sensational outings in the recently concluded five-match T20I series against West Indies.
The left-arm pacer has all the credentials to accompany the senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the playing XI of the Indian team against Babar Azam & co in the first match of their campaign.
Ravichandran Ashwin
The senior bowler has already registered his name in the list of all-time legendary all-rounders of India who ever played the longest format of the game. Speaking of his career in T20 international, then it has been controversial a few notes, ‘controversial’ because former skipper Virat Kohli has given very less chances to Ashwin in the playing XI of T20Is.
Nonetheless, the veteran off-spinner has scalped 64 wickets in 54 T20Is he played so far for the Indian team. If it would be a call to consider the experience, then the management will definitely go to count on Ashwin in a very important match of the tournament against the men in green.
