The loss of star pacer Jofra Archer for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 inflicted a serious setback for Mumbai Indians (MI). His English teammate and all-arounder Chris Jordan is now signed by the squad to fill in for the remainder of the tournament. Archer has returned to his home for further treatments.

Jordan, who made his IPL debut in 2016, has taken 27 wickets in 28 IPL games since his debut. The quick bowler has 96 T20I wickets to his name and has played 87 T20Is for England. At his base price of INR 2 crores, the right arm quick was bought by the five-time champions. On the other hand, Archer’s performance in the league was very disappointing as in 5 matches he leaked 190 runs and picked up only 2 wickets.

“Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday named Chris Jordan as a replacement for the injured Jofra Archer for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Jordan, who made his IPL debut in 2016, has so far played 28 IPL matches and has 27 wickets against his name. The speedster has represented England in 87 T20Is and has scalped 96 T20I wickets,” an IPL statement read on Tuesday.

Will MI avenge their previous loss against RCB?

Meanwhile, the Rohit Sharma-led side will be in action on Tuesday, May 9 in the 54th match of IPL against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. RCB emerged victorious in their previous meeting, it'd be interesting to see if MI will avenge their loss or if RCB will thrash them for the second time in the tournament.

It is likely to see Jordan getting his first match of the season on Tuesday as MI might rope in for Jason Beherendoff, whose performance was pretty decent in comparison to Archer. Bowling is the biggest concern for MI and it is possible that they might opt to bowl first after winning the toss as it'll be easy rather than defending a total.
