Talking of MI’s performance in the Eliminator, Marcus Stoinis of Australia top-scored with 40 as Lucknow was bowled out for 101 with more than three overs remaining thanks to Madhwal's excellent bowling, which included the astounding 5-5 figures of Akash Madhwal.

MI, which won the toss and decided to bat in the semifinal match, scored 182-8 thanks to the dominance of Cameron Green (41) and Suryakumar Yadav (33). Nehal Wadhera, an important player, scored 23 runs off 12 balls in the dying overs, smashing two fours and two sixes to help MI to an above-average total on a sluggish track.

Quinton de Kock, the starting batter, was left out of the crucial game by LSG, which backfired as impact player Kyle Mayers (18) holed out at long on during the powerplay after Madhwal struck with his fifth ball by getting Prerak Mankad (3) caught at third man.

As LSG slipped to 69-3 in the ninth over, captain Krunal Pandya, who had been struggling for 11 deliveries, too played a hasty shot and missed a chance at long-on against leg-spinner Piyush Chawla. In the following over, Madhwal delivered the decisive blow to LSG's pursuit as he clean-bowled Ayush Badoni and found Nicholas Pooran's edge with the subsequent delivery.

Following a mid-wicket collision with Deepak Hooda, Stoinis, who was watching wickets fall from the other end, was run out when he was unable to make it to the striker's end for the second run. Before Madhwal's superb yorker to clean bowl No. 11 batter, Mohsin Khan, MI added two more run-outs of Krishnappa Gowtham and Hooda thanks to two clever ground fielding plays by Green.
