On 31 August 2023, a new media platform, named Viacom18 bagged both the Television and digital media rights for Team India’s home matches for the next five years (2023-27) for INR 5963 crore (USD 720.60 million approx.) The Indian Cricket Board conducted an e-auction and Viacom18 had the highest bid over Disney Star and Sony.
The new platform took the media rights from Disney Star who already owns the digital rights of the IPL and both the digital and TV rights for the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Now, the secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Jay Shah came up with a congratulatory tweet for the new company while sharing gratitude towards the former media venture.

Viacom18's deal makes an average per-match value of INR 67.75 crore
Speaking of the tweet, Shah wrote: “Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the Indian Cricket Board Media Rights for both linear and digital for the next 5 years. India Cricket will continue to grow in both spaces as after @IPL, and @wplt20, we extend the partnership Indian Cricket Board Media Rights as well. Together we will continue to capture the imagination of cricket fans.”
He continued: “Also a big thank you to @starindia @DisneyPlusHS for your support over the years. You played a key role in making India Cricket reach its fans across the globe.” Seeing those tweets, fans shared their views on social media.
Meanwhile, Team India are currently getting ready to begin their Asia Cup 2023 campaign. On 2 September, they will face arch-rivals Pakistan. In another group encounter, they will take on Nepal on 4 September. Both matches will take place in Sri Lanka. However, after this tournament, the Men in Blue will play a three-match ODI series at home before the ODI World Cup. The World Cup is going to begin on 5 October in India as Rohit Sharma and his men will start the campaign on 8 October in Chennai against Australia.
