The Caribbean people are always known for innovations and they prove themselves always the most creative ones. They have done similar in the game of cricket by introducing the 6IXTY, a completely transformed tournament of cricket. Participating teams will play this tournament in a completely changed in comparison to regular format tournaments.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) and Caribbean Premier League (CPL) are two authorities that brought it to the table last month. In a subsequent process, the six participating teams of the 6IXTY have announced their full squads for the tournament.
Notably, the T10 format league will be played next month from August 24 to August 28. So, here we’ll have look at all the rules of the 6IXTY.
Rules for the 6IXTY
Six wickets will be there instead of 10 wickets in the match.
The batting team can have a window to unlock the third powerplay over after smashing two sixes in the two-over powerplay.
Both teams will have to bowl five continuous overs from each end instead of switching ends after each over.
The penalty will be imposed on the team in the game for slow over-rate. If any of the two teams can’t bowl the overs in the allotted time then a fielder will be sent outside for the final six balls.
One of the most innovative and exciting rules is that fans will be able to vote for ‘free-hit’ through an app or website.
Other than the rules, the CEO of CPL Pete Russell has talked about this event to ESPN Cricinfo. He talked about the different perspectives of cricket while talking about the league.
“You’re going to get some people saying ‘this isn’t cricket’ but my view is that cricket is absolutely the most important element of it,” Russell was quoted as saying in his statement.
Notably, former legendary Caribbean batter Chris Gayle is the brand ambassador of this league. The CPL announced him as the ambassador just a few months before the event.
