The intent of the Indian cricket team is on the receiving end of criticism from the former greats of the game and the experts as well. Notably, the men in blue faced the South African in the third match of their campaign in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. The list of critiques has been joined by the former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja.
Jadeja went on to question the fielding abilities of the Indians ahead of their next assignment in the tournament against Bangladesh. The statement from the former veteran came following the two easy chances missed by the former skipper and senior batter, Virat Kohli, and skipper Rohit Sharma himself.
Here's what Ajay Jadeja said about Indian fielding
“Virat Kohli's appointment as Team India's captain was the last time he heard about the importance of fielding and that only guys with strong fielding skills were included in Kohli's team,” said Jadeja to CricBuzz.
Questioning the intent of skipper Rohit Sharma, Jadeja happened to criticize the latter’s approach toward the fielding of the team.
“Rohit Sharma seems unconcerned about fielding and is more focused on the team's bowling and batting. As a result, Team India today is not as physically fit as it was when Kohli was in charge,” he added later.
"Who are the fielders we have? We have Ashwin and Shami. In terms of bowling, these two are great but you can't expect good fielding from them. When you pick a team, you know what you want and I think Team India has not given much attention to their fielding," concluded Jadeja.
Speaking of India’s campaign so far in the tournament, they have won two out of the three matches they’ve played. Indians fell prey to a loss of five wickets against South Africa following the two successive wins against Pakistan and the Netherlands respectively.
Now, they will lock horns with Bangladesh on Wednesday, a win in the match against Bangladesh will strengthen the chances of India to the knock-outs.
