After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Mumbai had to face the wrath of Punjab's openers. Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan got their side to an explosive start. While the veteran decided to anchor the innings, Punjab's skipper played the role of an aggressor to perfection.

The duo put together a massive 97-run partnership. Agarwal was dismissed after scoring a brilliant 52 off just 32 deliveries es After which, Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone couldn't get a big score this time around, and had to depart for 12 and 2 respectively. However, Dhawan started to take the aggressive route after getting himself in.

The "Gabbar" scored a brilliant 70 from 50 balls. Post his dismissal, it felt that the Agarwal-led side wouldn't be able to have a good finish to their innings. However, Jitesh Sharma played a magnificent cameo as he scored an unbeaten 30 off just 15 balls. His knock included two fours and two sixes. Shahrukh Khan scored a few lusty blows as well.

Punjab scored a mammoth total of 198-5 in the first innings as Mumbai's bowlers failed to impress once again. Only Jasprit Bumrah was able to bowl at an economy rate of less than 8. As far as the second innings is concerned, Mumbai were reduced to 32-2 after 4.1 overs. Just when things seemed to be going out of hands for the five-time champions, Dewald Brevis played an absolute gem of a knock.

He scored 49 off 29 deliveries, and was unlucky to miss out on a half-century. Mumbai kept scoring runs at a good rate but were losing wickets at regular intervals. The onus was on Suryakumar Yadav as the likes of Tilak Varma and Kieron Pollard were unfortunately run out. He gave his side a glimmer of hope with a superb 43 from 30 balls. However, he too couldn't win the game for Mumbai. At the end, Mumbai fell short of their target by 12 runs.
