The ongoing Abu Dhabi T10 tournament saw a strange incident take place during a match between Delhi Bulls and The Chennai Braves. Bulls skipper Dwayne Bravo said that all-rounder Romario Shepherd was resting for the game and instead Dominic Drakes would play. However, Bravo was not aware that the team sheet mentioned Shepherd’s name.
Braves were aware of the blunder made by the Bulls skipper but didn’t allow the change to take place. Shepherd bowled 1.4 overs and managed to pick up a wicket of Mark Deyal. The blunder didn’t prove too costly for Bravo and the Bulls as they won the match by five wickets.
Electing to field, the Bulls bowlers were slightly off rhythm as they allowed Braves to post a competitive 124 for two. Sri Lanka batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s blistering knock of 31-ball 64 helped Braves post a decent total. Meanwhile, for Bulls, Shepherd and Shiraz Ahmed managed to take wickets and bowled decently.
Chasing a steep target, the Bulls lost former South African batter Rilee Rossouw and Sherfane Rutherford in the first over. After the brief stutter, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mohammad Hafeez, and Eoin Morgan stabilized the innings by scoring 26, 15, and 26 respectively. The vital contribution though came from skipper Bravo’s bat.
The former West Indian all-rounder made up for the initial goof-up during the toss and scored 43 off 17 balls. His late blitz took the side home with two balls to spare. The Bulls have now won three games on the bounce. Meanwhile, Chennai Braves are yet to open their account as they have lost two games. Bulls will next be up against Deccan Gladiators on Monday (November 22). On the other hand, The Braves will be seen battling out against Team Abu Dhabi later in the day.
