Team India’s 2023 ODI World Cup preparation began with a three-match series win in West Indies as the Men in Blue will look to win their third World Cup in the 50-over format. The mega event is scheduled to begin on 5 October in India. Now, the former England skipper and the 2019 World Cup-winning captain, Eoin Morgan shared his favourites to win the tournament this time around.
Along with it, he also heaped praises on the passion and enthusiasm of Indian fans. Morgan also emphasised the growth of the T10 format's popularity all around the globe in an interview with the WION. He said: “The enthusiasm and passion displayed by Indian fans are unparalleled, which makes this special".
Eoin Morgan led England to the 2019 ODI World Cup triumph
“The team has formidable skills, and can, indeed, be strong contenders in the upcoming World Cup. They also need to engage with and learn from the experiences of those who participated in the 2011 World Cup,” he further added. “For some, the World Cup will be the stage to announce their arrival at the grandest level, while for others, it might mark the end of illustrious careers. In addition, Morgan strongly advocated for the popularization of the T10 format within cricket. "In fact, the T10 format should also be considered, allowing cricket to expand its reach and inclusivity,” Eoin Morgan concluded.
Speaking of Team India, they won the World Cup on two occasions, in 1983 and 2011 respectively. So, fans will hope for another good performance from the team in this upcoming event. In 2019, Morgan led England to their first-ever ODI World Cup victory. But, some fans were not happy with Morgan calling India the favourites to win the trophy for the third time. Speaking about India’s remaining ODIs, they will play in the 50-over Asia Cup followed by an ODI series against the Aussies at home, just before the World Cup.
