The ODI World Cup is all set to begin in October 2023 in India and England will look to defend their title this time around. Ben Stokes was the star of the show for them in the last edition for playing such a crucial knock in the final. But, this time around, he will be not available as Stokes took retirement from ODIs in July 2022. But, he played another crucial role in the final of the 2022 20-20 World Cup final for his country.

After that knock, he gave some hint about the possibility of him taking back the retirement. He said: “… who knows how I might feel towards a World Cup at the time. Going to a World Cup is an amazing thing to do, to represent your country. But at the moment I'm not even thinking about that”. Now, reports have come out that England Team management are all set to talk with him to regain his comeback for the World Cup.

Ben Stokes took retirement after playing 105 ODIs for England 

Currently, Stokes is the skipper of the Test team and under his captaincy, the team have developed a new attacking approach of playing in the longest format of the game. Recently, they managed a 2-2 draw in the Ashes 2023 series at home.

During the fifth match of that series, he was asked about the possibility of him returning to the ODI format. In reply to that, he said: "I'm retired. I'm going on holiday after this game and that's as far as I'm thinking."

Speaking about Stokes’ ODI career, he played 105 matches and scored 2924 runs, including 21 fifties and three centuries. Stokes scored those runs at an average of 38.98 with a strike rate of 95.08. With the ball also, he managed to pick up 74 wickets, at an economy of 6.05. England's campaign will begin on 5 October in Ahmedabad as they will take on New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
