A tremendous Super Six match of the ODI Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 took place between Scotland and Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. Zimbabwe suffered a stunning 31-run defeat at the hands of Scotland on Tuesday (July 4) to be knocked out of contention for a spot in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Talking about the match, Zimbabwe chose to bowl first after winning the toss. In 50 overs, Scotland scored 234 runs. Their starting lineup batters made crucial contributions to set the tone for the innings. However, Zimbabwe continued to make progress because of Williams' three-wicket haul, leaving the opposition at 170/7 at one point. However, Michael Leask's 48 runs from 34 deliveries enabled Scotland to reach a respectable total.

Chasing the target, The batters for Zimbabwe, who had a strong tournament, performed horribly in the game that needed to be won. Even that basic target was beyond their ability to reach. The Zimbabwean side was dismissed for 203 runs in 41.1 overs, failing to even complete the full 50 overs. Their first four wickets fell during the required 10-over powerplay.

Zimbabwe were reduced to 37/4 in a 235-run chase, however, they suffered a huge blow when the in-form Sean Williams was dismissed for just 12 runs. Their star allrounder Sikandar Raza got things going well, but after being out for 34, the hosts were left at 91/5. In an effort to resurrect the chase, Ryan Burl and Wessly Madhevere scored 73 runs for the sixth wicket.

Burl, though, was forced to play a lone hand as he was running low on help from the other end as a result of Madhevere's wicket. After reaching a heroic 83, Burl, who hit a four and a six against Leask, was bowled out in the same over and left defeated. Zimbabwe had no trouble maintaining the needed rate, but they lost too many wickets and were ultimately bowled out for 203, shattering their aspirations.
