Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a disastrous IPL 2023 as they finished in the last position with just eight points in 14 games. So, now, ahead of the next season, the franchise came up with a massive change as they confirmed on 7 August that they have parted ways with their head coach, Brian Lara.
On Instagram, they wrote: “As our 2 year association with Brian Lara comes to an end, we bid adieu to him Thank you for the contributions to the Sunrisers. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours”. In the 2022 IPL, they finished in the eighth position with 12 points in 14 games. In 2021, he was the batting coach of the franchise while he was the strategic advisor of them in 2022.
Daniel Vettori coached RCB from 2014 to 2018 in IPL
So, the team failed to deliver during his tenure. They even announced that the former Kiwi cricketer, Daniel Vettori will be their new head coach ahead of the next season of IPL in 2024. They wrote: “Announcement Kiwi legend Daniel Vettori joins the #OrangeArmy as Head Coach Welcome, coach!”. Vettori had a lot of experience of coaching in IPL as he coached Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from 2014 to 2018. Interestingly, in 2016, RCB reached the final and it was SRH who defeated them to clinch the trophy.
Apart from this, he once got appointed as the spin bowling coach for Bangladesh. Recently, he served Australia by becoming their assistant coach cum spin bowling coach. So, SRH fans will be hoping for a better result from the team in this upcoming edition of the tournament under the Kiwi’s guidance. Speaking about SRH, they last won the IPL trophy in 2016. Before that, the Hyderabad franchise was known as Deccan Chargers when they won the title in 2009 under Adam Gilchrist’s captaincy. In the 2020 season, SRH qualified for the playoffs for the last time as they finished the group stage in the third spot.
