India are currently busy getting ready for the upcoming Asia Cup in Bengaluru in a training camp. The Indian Cricket Board announced an 18-member squad for this upcoming tournament where KL Rahul made a comeback from his injury setback. But, Sanju Samson was also included as a standby player as chief selector, Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Rahul sustained a knock and could become fully fit by the start of 2nd and 3rd game of the tournament.

Agarkar said: "That's why Sanju Samson is at the moment travelling with us. But the physios, I am sure, will get a report, at some stage, they are all expected to be fit. If not at the start of the Asia Cup, probably from the 2nd and 3rd game (Rahul to be fit). He is well on track.” But, now, while speaking to reporters at the press conference, head coach Rahul Dravid said that Rahul is all set to miss the first two games.

India are in Group A alongside Pakistan and Nepal. On 2 September, Men in Blue will begin their campaign against the Men in Green. Then, they will take on Nepal on 4 September. So, Rahul will miss these matches and now, it will be interesting to see whether Ishan Kishan will bet the od or Sanju Samson will be given a chance.

However, a reassessment will take place on Rahul’s injury on 4 September and then, as per the results, he will be given the green light for travelling to Sri Lanka. Dravid said: "KL has had a good week with us, playing well, progressing really well but he will be unavailable for the first part for the Kandy leg of the trip. The NCA will be looking after him for the next few days while we are travelling. We will reassess on the 4th (September) and take it from there. But signs are looking good."
