The ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22 has been plagued with several COVID-19 cases. In the last few weeks, many players from several teams tested positive for COVID-19. Thus, the franchises couldn't field their strongest XI, and had to forcibly compromise.
As a matter of fact, Sydney Sixers, who happens to be one of the finalists of this edition, are facing a player crisis with many of their players unavailable due to injuries and getting tested positive. So much so that the Sixers’ assistant coach Jay Lenton took the wicket-keeping gloves in the absence of Josh Philippe during their semifinal clash against the Adelaide Strikers. However, the Henriques-led side still managed to beat them by four wickets to proceed to the grand finale of the tournament.
Sixers' star all-rounder Daniel Christian took to Twitter to propose a strange offer. While asking if anyone in Melbourne wanted to feature in the final for them, he offered a free beer in return. The hard-hitter also specified the timing and location. However, one can be rest assure that this was just a sarcastic Tweet.
“Shout out to anyone* in Melbourne that wants a game of cricket tomorrow night. My team is struggling to get 11 covid free, fit players on the park. The warm-up starts at 6.30 pm at Marvel Stadium. Free beer afterward, potentially out of a large cup. DM if keen *no test cricketers,” read his Tweet. Meanwhile, batting legend AB de Villiers replied to his tweet as well. However, De Villiers made a strange condition for playing for Sixers.

Amidst the chaos, the Australian batting legend Steve Smith is still available for the defending champions. In fact, the side wanted him to feature in the XI. However, the rules of the Australian T20 league don't permit them to play him as they prohibit local signings from outside the central replacement player pool.
