AB de Villiers is unarguably one of the greatest players to have featured in the Indian T20 League. As a matter of fact, he became synonymous with the Bangalore-based franchise. He has single-handedly won them several games.
Thus, it wouldn't be an overstatement to say that the legendary cricketer is one of the greatest players to have played for Bangalore as well. He represented them for a decade. However, he had announced his decision to retire from all forms of the game in November 2021. Thus, he is no longer a part of the Bangalore-based franchise. Nevertheless, the franchise's blue-eyed boy Virat Kohli still keeps talking about him.
However, in what comes as big news, De Villiers has confirmed that he will be present during the 2023 edition of the cash-rich league. While "Mr 360" did mention that he wasn't sure in what capacity, but he did state that Chinnaswamy is his second home. Further on, he also expressed his desire to return to the Indian T20 League.
"I haven't decided yet but I will definitely be around the IPL next year but not sure in what capacity and I'm missing it. There might be some games in my second home town in Chinnaswamy Bangalore and I would love to return in IPL and I'm looking forward to it," said Ab de Villiers while speaking to VUSport.
Thus, there is a huge chance of seeing the 38-year-old in Bangalore again. If not as a player, he could definitely be a part of their coaching staff. Besides, Kohli had earlier spoken about the same. In a video posted by Bangalore a few weeks earlier, the Indian batter was hoping to see De Villiers return to the Bangalore-based franchise in some capacity.
"I miss him a lot. I talk to him regularly. He was in the US recently with his family watching golf... He is keenly observing RCB and hopefully, he will be here next year in some capacity,'' said Kohli. As for ABD's record in the cash-rich league, he has scored 5,162 runs in 170 innings at an average and strike rate of 39.71 and 151.69 respectively. This includes three centuries and 40 half-centuries.
