Gautam Gambhir had a disappointing IPL 2023 season with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as the mentor of the team. LSG lost the eliminator against Mumbai Indians (MI) but in the group stage, they finished third place with 17 points in 14 games. He also had an ugly verbal spat up with Virat Kohli during the LSG vs RCB clash.

However, on 1 June 2023, Gambhir shared images of him visiting the Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, near Parliament House in New Delhi. On Twitter, he wrote: “Babaji sab par mehr karein! Waheguru, waheguru #RakabGanj.” Seeing that fans went crazy and claimed it might be a reply to the viral image of MS Dhoni with Gita Bhagavad, which was storming the internet all day.

However, it was the second consecutive exit for LSG from the eliminator in the last two seasons. After the loss, Gambhir shared some images of the team with the caption: “Down but not defeated! Big thanks to the fans for showing immense love. We’ll be back! #LSGBrigade.” After LSG’s loss, stand-in skipper, Krunal Pandya took the blame for the thumping defeat against MI.

During the post-match presentation, Pandya said: We were in a really good position. Everything started when I played that shot when it was not on and I take complete responsibility. We should have played better cricket there. I take all the blame for where we ended up. The wicket was good, it was coming nicely onto the bat. It played exactly how it did in the first innings. We had to bat better. We needed to take responsibility and play better cricket but we did not play that way.”

Meanwhile, after CSK’s victory in the final, Gambhir tweeted: “Congratulations CSK! Winning 1 title is difficult, winning 5 is unbelievable! #IPL2023.” It seemed that the LSG mentor took a dig at Kohli and his RCB franchise at the same time as they are still trophyless after 16 seasons in the tournament.
