On 29 January 2023, all eyes were on the India Women’s team as they took on England in the final of the Under-19 20-20 World Cup. The match took place in Potchefstroom. India's Women’s team had a comfortable eight-wicket victory over the Kiwis in the semi-final. On the other sei-final, England Women defeated Australia Women in a thrilling low-scoring affair.
So, the stage was set for an enthralling battle between these sides. All team India fans were praying to win any major titles in the history of their Women’s cricket. Speaking of the match, Shafali Verma won the toss and opted to bowl first. For England, skipper Grace Scrivens and Liberty Heap came out to open the innings.

Indian bowlers were on a roll from the start of the match. England lost two wickets in quick succession after scoring only 15 runs. Then, Ryana MacDonald-Hay scored 19 runs off 24 balls, including three fours. Along with her, Alexa Stonehouse scored 11 runs off 25 balls, including one four. Sophia Smale also scored 11 runs off seven balls, including two fours. Apart from them, no batters failed to score big as they got bundled out for just 68 runs in 17.1 overs. For India, Titas Sadhu, Archana Devi, and Parshavi Chopra took two wickets each. While Mannat Kashyap, Shafali Verma, and Sonam Yadav took one wicket each.
In reply, skipper Shafali disappointed her fans once again as she scored 15 runs off 11 balls, including one four and one six. In-form Shweta Sehrawat also scored just five runs off six balls, including one four. Then, Gongadi Trisha and Soumya Tiwari put up a valuable partnership of 46 runs. Trisha scored 24 runs off 29 balls, including three fours. While, Soumya remained not out on 24* runs off 37 balls, including three fours. Thus, they chased down the target in just 14 overs and wrote a history in the history of India’s Women’s cricket. They managed to win the inaugural edition of the Under-19 20-20 World Cup. Titas Sadhu won the player of the match award for her top bowling performance.
